Visit our grand opening page for exclusive discounts and savings, and stop in each day this week to learn about important business topics that can help you start, build, and manage your business.

We hope you’ve had a chance to see how you can get your business off and running and get a handle on business tax implications. Today on the BuildMyBiz grand opening series is all about protecting you, your business, and employees.

With the amount of time and effort you put toward your business, it’s important to protect everything you’ve built. A few BuildMyBiz rules of thumb when it comes to insurance:

Expect the best, prepare for the worst.

It’s important to prepare your business by learning what types of insurance are out there for your business. Get up to speed on basic principles, as well as how insurance agents describe coverage and benefits.

When in doubt, stick to the basics.

Start the insurance decision making process by learning insurance basics about health, property and casualty, and other insurance types. Once you’ve got them down, start matching your insurance needs, regardless of your current stage of business. When you’ve determined what’s right for you, learn how to go about actually obtaining business insurance.

The best defense is good liability insurance.

When it comes to work-related lawsuits, no employer is immune to the potential of charges of discriminatory practices. Employment practice liability insurance can protect you from one of the fastest-growing sources of litigation in the country.

It’s gotta be good.

Business owner’s insurance (BOP) bundles all coverage into a standard package that’s generally less expensive than purchasing individual policies. A ‘good’ BOP plan can address a wide range of property and liability issues or exposures at a bargain price.

Let’s Hear from You

How important is having insurance as you start or build your business?

In the wake of this year’s natural disasters in the U.S. such as floods in the northeast and tornadoes in the midwest, how have these events changed your perceptions on the need for business insurance?

We’re keeping the insurance talk going over on our Facebook and Twitter pages, so make sure to join in on the conversation!
